About Vishwakarma Day
Vishwakarma Day or Vishwakarma Jayanti is the day in honor of God Vishwakarma, a Hindu God. The day is celebrated on the next day of Diwali, along with Govardhan Puja. During Samudramanthan, this divine God was born. Prayers offered on this auspicious day to God, bring success in professional career.
About Lord Vishwakarma
He is the very first divine Architect, Carpenter and Creator. Vishwakarma constructed the entire Universe, Heaven, Earth and all other palaces for Gods. He is credited for making extreme deadly weapons like Sudarshan Chakkara for Lord vishnu, Vajra for divine King Indra, Gandiv for King Arjuna, extreme flying machines/ shuttles Pushpak Vimanas are made by him. His other creations includes Golden Lanka (city ruled by Great king Ravana) & Dwarka (a holy city ruled by Lord Shree Krishna) . For Pandavas, he created Maya Sabha. Lord Vishwarkarma is also credited with Sthapatya Veda, the Science of Architecture, Mechanics & Physics.
About Vishwakarma Puja
Vishwakarma Puja is observed mainly in factories and Industrial areas. The Artisans, Craftsmen, Smiths, Welders, Weavers, Industrial and Factory Workers, Mechanics and Professionals of Engineering and Architecture, pay token of respect to the God, by installing statues, idols and pictures of the Lord Vishwakarma at their workplaces. Devotees pray for better future prospects, safe working conditions and success in their respective fields. Worshiping for smooth functioning of Tools and Instrumentsare performed as Vishwakarma puja custom. Some factories also declare annual bonus on this day. Family members and employee's get together in office premises to perform the puja, which is followed by distribution of ‘Prasad’. A great lunch is hosted for all. Kite flying competitions are also organized on this divine day.
